Uwe Banton zählt seit Jahren zu den markantesten Stimmen der deutschen Reggaeszene. Als Leadsänger der Bielefelder Movements veröffentlichte er bereits drei Alben, aber nun war die Zeit reif für eine Neuorientierung. Diesmal sammelte er sich wunderschöne Riddims von so namhaften Schöpferstätten wie House Of Riddim, Sharp Axe Band, Culcha Candela, Stonerock Productions und der Oneness Band aus, um sie mit seinen Botschaften zu verbinden. Man hört es sofort: Hier hat jemand etwas zu sagen. „11th September“, „Fussin’ & Fighting“ und „The More They Fight Us“, um nur einige zu nennen, sind allesamt neue Stücke, die die gegenwärtigen Geschehnisse kommentieren und gleichzeitig Hoffnung geben, dass es trotz weltweitem Terroralarm und drohenden globalen Kriegen noch nicht zu spät ist. Dabei bleibt der Sound stets tanzbar und melodiös. Als Gäste begrüßt Uwe Banton den Süd-Afrikaner Black Dillinger und den Berliner Ganjaman, der sich auch für die Produktion und das Abmischen der Vocals verantwortlich zeigt.
Die Zeit zwischen dem letzten Movements-Werk und seinem Solo-Debüt nutzte Uwe Banton für eine größere Präsenz im für die Soundsystems so wichtigen Selectionssegment. Neben seinem Hit „Jah Roots“ auf Ganjamans „Too Long“-Riddim tauchte er auch auf der „Bloodsucker“-, der „Time X“- und der „Oneness“-Selection auf. Brandneu im Plattenladen steht außerdem seine Single „11th September“!
Seit 1995 ist Uwe Banton, ob alleine, mit den Movements oder mit der österreichischen Backing-Band House Of Riddim, regelmäßiger Gast auf den großen Festivalbühnen in Deutschland, Österreich, Schweiz und Belgien. So sang er beispielsweise auf den folgenden Festivals: Summerjam, Chiemsee Reggae Summer, Splash!, Afrika Festival, Bersenbrück Reggae Jam – das nur als kurzer Auszug. Im Laufe der Jahre teilte Uwe Banton sich somit die Bühne mit Größen wie Sizzla, Anthony B, Luciano, Culture, Mykal Roze (Black Uhuru), Seeed, Gentleman & The Far East Band, Julian Marley & Uprising, Hans Söllner und zahlreichen anderen. Von 2000 bis 2001 waren er und seine Movements-Kollegen außerdem zusammen mit Söhne Mannheims live zu erleben, u.a. bei Rock am Ring, Rock im Park und als U2-Support in Köln. Auch als Feature-Artists trat Uwe Banton immer wieder in Erscheinung, beispielsweise auf dem „Zwischenspiel“-Album von Xavier Naidoo und dem „Stand Strong“-Album der Münchener Headcornerstone.
Wer traditionsbewussten und dennoch modernen Roots Reggae mit aussagekräftigen Texten schätzt, wird „Jah Roots“ lieben und schätzen lernen!

The debut Album by Reggae singer Uwe Banton (based in Bielefeld/Germany) will shortly be hitting the streets. After 10 years of hard work and three LP releases with his Band Movements Uwe chooses to walk a new path as a solo artist. His 2005 smash hit “Jah Roots” (7”, MKZwo Records, Berlin) on the “Too Long”-Riddim created by the well-acknowledged Berlin-based artist and producer Ganjaman, proved that his music would also be accepted by the large audience of the Sound-system scene which played the tune on a wide scale.
Touching issues that could not be more up-to-date and yet timeless. „11th September“, „Fussin’ & Fighting“, „The More They Fight Us“, just to mention a few, are all brand-new tracks which comment on the happenings of our present time while giving hope that, facing worldwide terror-alerts and peace-threatening global wars, it is not too late. “I Know…” he sings full of confidence on the “Give Thanks” Riddim (Culcha Candela).
Besides the new tracks the popular “Don’t Cry”- a collaboration with the Austria based House Of Riddim - as well as the impeaching Ganjaman feature called “Kommt, Seht, Hört”, which was also a big hit earlier this year within the Germany/Austria/Switzerland Reggae Scene, are also on the LP. So, have no fear, because “Jah Is Here”.
The approach on producing this album differs from the previous Movements-productions. While the latter emerged primarily as classical singer/songwriter albums, Uwe has now written his songs to fit onto Riddims provided by various producers. Well-known bands like House Of Riddim, Sharp Axe Band, Stonerock Production and Oneness Band deliver the groovy, sometimes rough but beautifully arranged instrumentals. But his own composition (“Fussin’ & Fighting”) is also a part of it. Berlin-based Producer-Artist Ganjaman is in the main responsible for the production and for mixing the vocals onto the riddims.
