UWE BANTON – Kurzinfo

Geboren im ostwestfälischen Lage/Lippe und wohnhaft in Bielefeld ist sein Roots-Reggae aber alles andere als provinziell. Das beweisen seine ausgedehnten Touren, die ihn, außer durch Deutschland, auch in Länder wie Griechenland, Portugal, Russland, die Ukraine und unlängst sogar nach Costa Rica führten.

Denn längst ist er eine gestandene Größe in der deutschen Reggae Szene und international ein Begriff, wurde er doch schon als 15-jähriger mit dem Reggae Virus infiziert und bereiste daraufhin Jamaika.

In den 80-ger Jahren fing er dann selber an mit Soundsystems aufzutreten und seit Anfang der 90-ger Jahre ist er live mit Band unterwegs.

Nach mittlerweile 5 Alben (3 mit seiner Band MOVEMENTS und 2 Solo Alben, dazu zahlreiche Single-Veröffentlichungen) gelten die Live Auftritte des von vielen als deutschen Reggae Urgestein angesehenen Musikers als ganz besonderes Erlebnis.

Xavier Naidoo, Gentleman, Luciano, Prezident Brown und Ganjaman - um nur einige zu nennen - gehören unter anderen zu den Künstlern mit denen UWE BANTON schon zusammen gearbeitet hat und sämtliche großen Reggae Festivals, sei es der Chiemsee Reggae Summer, Reggaejam oder Summerjam, hat er bespielt. Einen Live-Auftritt sollte man sich daher – auch als Nicht-Reggae Fan -  nicht entgehen lassen.

... UWE BANTON can look back on many years of experience within the Reggae Music fraternity. Being infected with the “Reggae virus“ in the early 1980's by artists like Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Jacob Miller, Burning Spear, etc, he made his first trip to Jamaica in 1981. Back in Germany he started DJing on Riddims back in 1984 during the legendary era of King Jammy's Riddims like Sleng Teng and others.

In the early 90's he joined his first band as it became clear that he would find his genre within musical realms of Roots Music. He later joined the Band “MOVEMENTS“ which consisted of members from Jamaica, Africa and Germany, and for over 10 years stood as a guarantor of authentic Roots Reggae and played on all major Reggae festivals in Germany and neighbouring countries.

In 2003 UWE BANTON linked up with artist/producer GANJAMAN from Berlin and out of this collaboration sprang a great series of releases which led to the release of his debut album “JAH Roots“ on the MKZWO RECORDS label which has made a tremendous impact on Roots Reggae lovers from all over the world.
In 2009 he released his second solo album entitled “Rightful Place”, which, like “JAH Roots” positively found a widespread global response.

There is no major Reggae Festival in Central Europe where UWE BANTON hasn't played yet, from “Summerjam” to “Chiemsee”, “Reggaejam”, “Ruhr Reggae”, “Wiesen”, etc. On all his shows, where he is accompanied by some of the top Reggae musicians Germany has to offer, the audience were thrilled by the vibrant and authentic performance and his meaningful, positive message of true peace and love, equal rights, justice and righteousness.

Now in 2011 the new media via internet like facebook, youtube, etc. there is no stopping a continuous growth. It opens new ways to reach to audience all over the world and while further shows and collaborations are being initiated, UWE BANTON has just returned from a successful tour through Costa Rica creating a high anticipation within the reggae community for the good things to come.
